What author name is best for a mystery series with a heroine?
Option F won this Ranked poll with a final tally of 26 votes after 5 rounds of votes counting.
In a Ranked poll, respondents rank every option in order of preference. For example, when you test 6 options, each respondent orders their choices from first to sixth place.
PickFu requires a majority to win a Ranked poll. A majority winner differs from a plurality winner. A majority winner earns over 50% of the votes, whereas a plurality winner earns the most votes, regardless of winning percentage.
If an option does not earn a majority of votes, PickFu eliminates the option with the lowest number of votes. The votes from the eliminated option are reassigned based on each respondent’s next choice. This process continues in rounds until a majority winner emerges.
Scores reflect the percentage of total votes an option receives during the vote counting and indicate the relative preference of the respondents. If there is no majority winner, look to the scores to see how the options fared relative to one another.

I ranked Parker DeSales first because it is a full name. The first name Parker, is uncommon for a woman. Which would align with the heroine who is somewhat unconventional. I ranked Tenny Parker second because the first name is unusual. My third choice flows from the tongue. The remaining choices all have typical last names and I don't prefer any of them.
I like Parker DeDales. It's unisex and a good, strong name. I prefer it over initials.
For me, it's a toss up with options A and F as to which I'd put first. I ultimately chose A because I think that name would be easier to remember. I think being able to remember an author's name is important for maintaining readers. That being said, I did put option E ahead of option D because the name Tenny as a first name just sounds juvenile to me which turns me off of it a bit. Options F and E are very similar, but I think Wilds would stand out in my mind more than Downs. Options C and B just feel like a mouthful to say and remember, so I put those last. I'd recommend picking a name that could be used for any type of book series so if this series takes off and you want to write something different, the pen name still works.
The name parker is strong and memorable.
I chose A for the name of the author because out of the options this one stood out to me the most. It is a name that seems to go along with the description of the story line, where she will thrive and do what her intended purposes are and be the hero for many other women. This is a strong name that will show no mercy. The others are okay but too similar to other authors names, A is more distinctive, and DeSales for a last name, it's like she is taking the wind out of the bad guys.
I would remember a full name before I would a name with initials. It stands out more and is more unique. I prefer option A the most because it is unique and wouldn't be confused with any other name. I would remember this name. Option D is also nice, but I am afraid I would think Penny instead of Tenny. Options F, C, E and B are basic and wouldn't be something I would probably remember.
A is a mouthful but is easy to say and sounds cutting edge like the heroine in the novel. The Desales also sounds French which a lot of Maine is French Canadian

I absolutely love my first choice: K J O'Day!! Wow, I wish I would've thought of that as my pen name lol It rolls right off the tongue and sounds nothing like anyone out there today. My second was Tenny Parker because I've heard the name Tenny only once and it's a 6th grade friend of my daughter's. I like it. I do not like Parker DeSales...I don't know why, probably because Sales is in the last name so it sounds money-hungry. I like R J Tenny okay and R J Wilds is just so-so. Great choices though - wish I knew which one won!
My first choice (B) sounds like a name that would be involved in a book as indicated. It has a nice rhyme to the name and it is easy to remember. C has a familiar feeling to it and sounds like a name that is associated with quality books. E is also easy to recall. F I do not like because of the use of the name Wilds. D is not a name that I would easily remember and it does not sound like a mystery series writers name. A is my least favorite and it sounds like a mans name and I want the authors name to sound female due to the plot of the story.
This name rolls of the tongue perfectly while still having an era of mystery to the name
Using initials rather than a full name lends a tone of mystery and authority. The rhyming cadence of KJ O'Day is the most appealing. Then the last names ending with 's' seem strong and rugged. Tenny sounds more like a given name than a last name and even when used as a given name it seems soft, not necessarily a figure I'd want to hear a tough cop story from. Given name Parker that isn't really a name is unappealing and I don't like the 'De' prefix in the last name.
K J O'Day has a ring to it but will definitely be unique and easy to remember. R J Wilds probably sounds the best but I'm guessing there are other authors with very similar names. Tenny Parker sounds okay, but a little childish for some reason, and Parker is a common name, and people would probably be searching for Jenny instead.

RJ Tenny is memorable and looks good written out. Tenny Parker is cute, I like Tenny for a first name it’s very original. RJ Wilds is a good name for the genre of the book. KJ downs is easy to say and easy to remember. Option B doesn’t sound that great when said aloud and it looks strange written out. I like Parker for the first name but DeSales is hard to pronounce
I like the casualness of using initials like RJ and KJ. Makes the author sound more relatable. Parker DeSales is too fake sounding.
C sounds professional and unique. F is closely followed behind. The rest sound far fetched and completely made up. Making me question why I’d read something written by a pseudonym like that.
I like the names with initials best (C/F/E/B). Of those I feel like R.J. Tenny is the most memorable; the last name doesn't sound like something I'd get confused with another author easily. F is also good but C stands out to me really well. E and B are almost as good I just feel the RJ initials flow better. I prefer "Downs" as a last name. Of the other two I like Parker as a first name better.
I ranked in the order that I feel I could picture the heroine and that I could connect with the name without feeling like it was cheesy sounding.
I like the sound of "R J" as the first part of the name. I also like the name Tenny for the first or last name. I don't like "K J O'Day" because it rhymes and doesn't fit for a author of a mystery series; sounds too hokey.

I like D the best because the name is unique enough that people will remember it. I like that it's easy to pronounce too. I think it fits good for the author of the series. I like the rest somewhat and the only one I don't care for is B because of how it rhymes. I think that sounds odd and not like what an author's name would be.
D has a good combination of hard and soft sounds, and Tenny is androgynous, so she won't be judged for being a female action writer. C is also androgynous, with that intriguing name Tenny. A is just a fun name, with that French flavor. The other three I don't think are effective... E's use of Downs can be seen negatively; F's Wilds might imply our heroine is wild, which works against her description; and B's Irish lilt is still too soft for an action crime writer.
I like this one best. It gives a whole name and is a memorable name.
I chose D as.my choice because I like the name. I think it is memorable, intriguing, professional, and catchy. I feel that the name fits the story and someone who would create this character and storyline.
Tenny Parker is the best choice because there are no initials and I think this heroine deserves a full name. Tenny is different enough but Parker sounds like a reliable cop/detective surname. Parker DeSales is a good name, but it might be a little too affluent sounding for a detective/cop. If you use initials RJ is gender ambiguous which is effective and Tenny is an interesting surname. KJ is also gender ambiguous which is good for a detective/cop but Downs is boring. I like RJ, but Wilds seems too cutesy since she kind of goes wild in her quest to save others. KJ O'Day is horrible because the rhyming makes it sound like a children's character.
I like D. I would especially like her to have a full useful name rather than initials because using a full name feels more personal. Tenny Parker sounds like this person.
I chose D because I think a full name is better than initials. There are too many mystery writers with the initials for first names. Option A is second because I don't particularly care for the last name, D is better for a full name. C, E, F, B are all about the same to me.
I like the name Parker as the last name and I am going with choice D for this reason. Having Parker as the first name like in choice A wouldn't be horrible but I like it better as a last name. I am not a huge person with letters as a name like RJ which reminds me of a boss I had named RJ who I didn't care for which is why choices F and C are last. KJ sounds like a news reporter which isn't horrible but again I don't like letter names but would go with choice B and E before the letters of RJ. Definitely liking the name Parker of choices D and A a lot more.
Based on the character description, ambience and her adventures, my favorite is Option D because it`s simple first and last name, easy to remember because it`s short and uncomplicated. My second best is Option C because of `Tenny`which I like because it`s very feminine. Other options follow in the mentioned order.
I like the way Tenny Parker sounds. Feels like it would be very easy to remember. When using initials for a name like some of the other options, I feel those are more difficult to remember amoung people unless the person becomes extremely famous. Tenny Parker has an easy to remember name and rolls off the tongue well, sort of the first name.matches with the last name. I least prefer K J O'Day. The rhyming seems childish and all it makes me think of is OJ.
I like the name Tenny. It seems smart and different.
C is horrible because it sounds like JC Penney. I like D the best because it doesn't remind me of anyone or anything and feels fresh. B and D are ok but remind me of horse racing/jockeys.
D - Classy, easily spelled, cute, appealing.C - Mysterious, elusive, fun.F - Creative and fun.E - Downs is not an appealing or creative name. Seems depressing.B - O makes it hard to spell, denotes Irish.A - Sounds like a sales ploy, hard to spell and search online, space in between or not?

I like E and C. Those two honestly remind me of Nora Roberts writing as JD Robb. I really loved her police procedural series. As a matter of fact, when I want to read a fiction crime novel, I really go for the authors who have their initials as their pen name. I didn't like R J Wilds though, that one just sounded more like a romance. Tenny Parker was pretty good, since it was an unusual name. The others were a little blasé.
I like initials, kinda mysterious, anonymous. Downs and Wild are good descriptives, O'Day and Tenny sound British, DeSales seems subjective to sell books.
I really really like Parker as a first name. K J Downs sounds the most realistic and like a vaguely familiar writer. The RJ as a first name sounds good but Wilds as a sounds off, so does Desales. If it were spelt a little more last nameish it would look better like -De Saels De Saeles. You could go with Parker Tenny, Parker Downs. I want to reiterate again how much I like Parker. The premise of the novel/series sounds interesting. Good Luck!
I like KJ Downs the most because it has a certain ring to it. I tried to imagine myself at school (I'm a teacher) talking about the latest book I'm reading and including the author's name and title. I think KJ Downs simply rolls of one's tongue. It's intriguing and mysterious in a way. It makes one wonder if the author is male or female. Which sex would be writing a book series about a female detective? It would make me want to read more. My least favorite way KJ O'Day simply because it seems too rhymey and cliche. I do like Parker as a first name but the last name, DeSales, is too confusing. One wonders--is the "s" at the end silent, is it pronounced like "sales" or like "LaSalle". Perhaps Parker Tenny would be easy to pronounce and lend itself to the mysterious aura.

I love F and find it intriguing. B has a nice ring to it. A is catchy and mysterious. C and E with are just okay for me. I have not heard of the first name in D.
I like the names with initials the best, I think because they remind me of J K Rowling. I like F the best with the last name Wilds it seems good for a mystery. Then Downs is a good last name since the heroine is taking down bad guys. Between B and C for 3 and 4, I selected C over B since O'Day makes me think of an Irish writer and the story takes place in Maine so I like C more. Then between the two non-initial names, I like A more than D because I've heard of Parker as a first name but not Tenny.
F has a nice ring to it, almost like an actor name. It is easy to remember. C has a catchy ring to it as well but sounds a little more made up than F. B is a bit silly but definitely memorable and can have its own personality. A sounds fancy, a little snobby, but has a nice sound to it. D sounds like a little old lady or someone older in general, but is easy to remember. E sounds a little more like a few other authors so it might be confusing to hear.
This was a hard choice. Most of the time I don't consider the author's name when considering whether to read a book unless it is an author I am specifically familiar with. With regards to this choice, I simply chose the names as they appealed to me aesthetically as I thought about them on the cover of the book. There was no particular preference based on perceived lineage or anything of that nature.
F is chosen first because the use of initials gives a level of mystery to the author and leaves the first and middle names up to the readers imagination thus allowing for the readers image to vary and form their own vision of the author. The last name “wilds” gives a vision of backwoods (befitting for an author writing about ME) and strength.C followed by E are next with the same reasons as the first re the use of initials for the first and middle names. C is placed as second as the name seems to evoke more strength then E does (Downs is ok but is not exciting or image producing in fact comes across as a little frumpyD is next as of the tensing three it still evokes some strength and mysteryA sounds more like the name of a waitress working at a city diner so not one I would use. B is last. The name rhymes a bit which is cute but not effective for a mystery writer and O’Day sounds like the writer is trying to con the audience (O’Day sailboats/ME) and is not serious.
I chose F as my first pick, the name just seems to fit the book description, action packed and intrigue. I ranked the rest in the order of how I felt they fit this criteria. The first pick immediately stood out to me. The names Wild & Tenny just have an unusual ring that I like.
I like the intial ones, they sound tough and strong, like the book herioine sounds. Out of all of the the first choice rolls off the tongue the best and will be easy to remember.
There is something intriguing about initials being the first name of a lead character in a novel, i like the sound of option F the best, a bit of mystery but a bit wild too. Option e and c are my next choices, option A and D are suitable names as well option B i want to like with the initials, but its too odd on the tongue with the Irish surname.
I chose (F) RJ wilds for the Author, the name jumped out at me, its strong , yet feminine. plus RJ could be the abbreviation for a full name like Rebecca Jane, or Robin Jay wilds.
I like R J because it rolls off the tongue.
My rankings are based on the name I feel works best for an author pen name. Based on the description provided and names given, my choices are ranked by the name I feel works best. My top choice is Option F. I think this name sounds good and is memorable.
I prefer the initials and last name, more mysterious and the last name wilds is thought provoking and will follow the avenging angel path, i.e. she is a bit wild.
I like the KJ Downs name because it sounds powerful to me. Like someone that can write great story. I chose names that had that same feeling for me until the last ones. I don't like A D and B at all because those names don't spark any excitement for me.
RJ Wilds is a good pen name for a mystery series author. I would pick it up and at least look at it based on the name alone. Options E and C are close for similar reasons. B and D are completely cheesy yet forgettable. A reminds of a name for a used car salesman.
I choose option F because it seems to me that she is an adventure writer, it sounds like she is not an ordinary woman but someone who knows the risks very well. That is why the surname "Wilds" gives strength to the main character of the series, as if it were related to the life of the writer. My second option would be E but more for fashion, it seems easy to remember. My third option would be B, because it sounds different, even a little adventurous. As the fourth option I choose C, although it does not attract my attention as an adventure writer. As the last and sixth option would be D and A, because they seem to be rather ordinary people
