Therefore, it\u2019s important to make sure that you have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/test-company-logo\/\">tested your logo design<\/a> on a target audience. It might surprise you to find that one of your creative design choices doesn\u2019t fly with your audience at all.<\/p>\n<p>A company recently experienced this when testing its logo\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/business\/business-logos\/which-logo-is-more-appealing-286BX722\">using a PickFu poll<\/a>. It asked the test panel, \u201cWhich logo is more appealing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both logos are all black. Option A shows the words \u201cSAVAGE GENERAL\u201d with a sprocket wheel behind it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/82b8c23920baa3e86ba8f8d3310214e668a52c17.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1209 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/82b8c23920baa3e86ba8f8d3310214e668a52c17.png\" alt=\"Which One Won? Getting Risky With Logo Design\" width=\"500\" height=\"344\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.pickfu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/83c505219e0e3106f74f3fbf66c713b1b0d86762.png 500w, https:\/\/blog.pickfu.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/83c505219e0e3106f74f3fbf66c713b1b0d86762-436x300.png 436w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, system-ui, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1rem;\">Can you guess which one won?<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>Of the 50 respondents, Option A won by a landslide, taking 94% of the votes, with only 3 individuals preferring Option B.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Don&#8217;t Make Them Work For It<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Most of the respondents preferred Option A because they felt that the upside down text in Option B was too hard to read. Poll respondents used words such as <em>annoying, confusing<\/em>, and <em>unreadable<\/em> to describe Option B. One individual wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI prefer A because I do not have to figure out the \u2018upside down part.\u2019 It\u00a0just\u00a0makes more visual sense.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You don&#8217;t want your audience to have to work hard to &#8220;figure out&#8221; anything. If your audience can\u2019t read what your company is, then they don\u2019t know who you are. They can feel frustrated if they have to take extra steps to figure out your company name.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h3>Make Non-Text Elements Relevant<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The test panel also commented on the importance of connecting design choices with the company purpose. When observing the company\u2019s risky move to include upside down text in Option B, one respondent writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cUnless the upside down letters tell something about your product or service, they\u2019re kind of silly and gimmicky and don\u2019t\u00a0really\u00a0add anything\u00a0visually\u00a0pleasing or informational to the logo.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In other words, if you\u2019re going to be risky, make it relevant.<\/p>\n<p>Another respondent also commented on the connection between logo design and company purpose:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c[The] image of the gear in the logo [in Option A] gives me some idea of what the brand might represent.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Other respondents made similar comments, but some mentioned that they were still confused about\u00a0what\u00a0the company does.<\/p>\n<p>This shows the importance of being intentional when adding non-text components.<\/p>\n<p>If you are making any tweak to the letters or adding other elements to your logo, consider the purpose behind doing so.
