When you have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/headline-testing\/\" class=\"ek-link\">written your headline<\/a>, you have spent eighty cents out of your dollar.\u201d <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, if you want your product to sell, then you better have a winning headline.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To find its winning headline, the company LeapIN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/business\/business-names-taglines\/which-tagline-makes-more-sense-and-better-relates-to-what-the-company-is-doing-R7138UWZ\">created a PickFu poll<\/a>, testing out two different headlines for its landing page. It asked the audience, &#8220;Which tagline makes more sense and better relates to what the company is doing?&#8221; The audience consisted of men and women, ages 25-54.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Option A reads, \u201cIndependent work made simple.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"351\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/971eb38791dc54592ebee386b1620a76e8f4f85d.png\" alt=\"Which One Won? Option A! The poll received 50 responses, with 30 individuals preferring Option A. This preference was consistent regardless of age and gender.<br><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-be-clear-on-what-the-audience-will-get-out-of-it\">Be clear on what the audience will get out of it<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Poll participants who favored Option A noted that it spoke more to their specific needs and stated how the product could help them. One respondent wrote, \u201cThis phrase makes more sense and implies that this app\/site would make your job easier.\u201d The wording in Option A painted a clear picture for panelists, emphasizing the key benefit of the product: simplifying the process of starting a one-person business.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The use of the word <em>simple<\/em> appealed to many respondents because it showed them the biggest benefit of the product. One person noted, \u201cPeople are always looking for an easier way to do things. Whether it\u2019s apps on their tablets or phones or other shortcuts they can take in life. Telling them the site makes things simple will draw more people to it&#8230; this tells them it will be easier for them.\u201d It&#8217;s important to note that the headline focused less on software <em>features<\/em> and more on the <em>benefits<\/em> of the software for the user.<br><\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-avoid-vague-words\">Avoid vague words<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>The results from this poll also show how important it is to make sure headline words are clear for the target audience. For example, respondents found that the word <em>empowering<\/em> in Option B was too vague, whereas the word <em>simple<\/em> gave them a clear picture of what the services could do for them. Several respondents also noted that \u201cempowering\u201d is an overused phrase that sound too much like jargon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Panelists clung to the word <em><g class=\"gr_ gr_17 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling\" id=\"17\" data-gr-id=\"17\">simple<\/g><\/em> because of its clarity. One individual observed that \u201cA is more approachable. Simplicity is key and the empowering line doesn\u2019t convey that idea at all.\u201d Another noted, \u201cI want my work to be simple, not empowered.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When creating your own headline, it&#8217;s important to ensure that you have selected the right word for your target audience. That is why it is important to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/guide-to-split-testing\/\">split test<\/a> different options prior to publishing.<\/p>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-creating-your-headline\">Creating your headline<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>As you craft your own headline, take time to brainstorm keywords that represent what the product could do for your audience.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One effective copywriting strategy is to think of the problems your audience is facing. What is frustrating your target audience? Use words that speak to that frustration and show how your product is a solution. You can use a thesaurus to help you brainstorm possible words.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have your headline options, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/guide-to-split-testing\/\">conduct a split test<\/a> on them to see which one works best.
