If a product supplements a person\u2019s diet and contains a vitamin, mineral, herb, amino acid, or other ingestible dietary substance, it\u2019s a supplement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This definition covers everything from vitamin gummies and whey protein to probiotics and fish oil.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let\u2019s get to the good stuff: what you need to include on your supplement bottle. You\u2019ll want to get to know <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/dietary-supplements-guidance-documents-regulatory-information\/dietary-supplement-labeling-guide-chapter-i-general-dietary-supplement-labeling#:~:text=Five%20statements%20are%20required%3A%201,manufacturer%2C%20packer%2C%20or%20distributor.\" class=\"ek-link\">the official regulations<\/a> intimately and check for updates often. But the gist of it is that to make an FDA-compliant dietary supplement label, you must include five statements on the container:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Statement of identity\u2014aka, your brand name and the name of the supplement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Net quantity of contents\u2014how much product is in the container<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nutrition labeling\u2014the nutritional breakdown per serving<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ingredient list&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Name and place of business for the manufacturer, packer, or distributor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not enough to include these pieces of information anywhere on the bottle. Instead, the FDA requires you to put all label statements on either the:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Principal display panel, or the front of the bottle&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Information panel, or the area just to the right of the principal display panel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement of identity \u2014 aka your brand logo and product name \u2014 must go on the principal display panel. So must the net quantity of contents statement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nutrition labeling, ingredients list, and manufacturer info must go on the information panel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This information might seem overwhelming at first, but it\u2019s pretty straightforward once you wrap your mind around it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best part? Especially protein powders and other pre- and post-workout supplements targeted at bodybuilders.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others, particularly vitamin labels, will feature fruits, veggies, and other graphics that make customers think of health and wellness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still others will feature an established and well-loved brand\u2019s classic, familiar look.
