Launched in 2022 by Pinduoduo \u2013 a giant in China&#8217;s e-commerce landscape \u2013 Temu entered the market with a unique approach.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It focuses on offering low-priced products by connecting consumers directly with Chinese manufacturers. Remember: Temu\u2019s business model involves getting rid of the middlepeople, not adding them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, unless you live in China and manufacture products you want to sell directly to consumers, Temu is out. (For now. <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/temu-shein-sellers-us-expand-cc1665b5cf2d7b5e927c442de801bed6\" class=\"ek-link\">According to the Associated Press<\/a>, the company will soon be opening its doors to U.S. and European sellers. It\u2019s not clear if that means individual sellers or manufacturers, and Temu didn\u2019t provide any further clarification.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There <em>is <\/em>a way to make money on Temu, though. But it\u2019s not geared toward e-commerce sellers. You can either:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sign up for Temu\u2019s affiliate program: <\/strong>With this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.temu.com\/affiliate_recruit.html?_x_ads_csite=affiliate_seo\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"ek-link\">referral program<\/a>, shoppers can share a special code with their friends and earn up to a 20% commission when someone uses it to buy a Temu product.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Apply for Temu\u2019s influencer program:<\/strong> If you\u2019re an influencer with a huge social media following on sites like TikTok and Instagram, you might qualify for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.temu.com\/influencer-collaboration.html\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\"ek-link\">Temu Influencer<\/a> program. Temu says its influencers can make big bucks <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/how-to-sell-on-tiktok\/\" class=\"ek-link\">selling on TikTok<\/a><\/strong> and other sites \u2013 up to $500 in cash every other month, plus up to $100,000 in monthly affiliate cash and $1,000 in free products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Essentially, the only way to earn money on Temu is to basically join the Temu marketing team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But it\u2019s still worth exploring the ins and outs of Temu if you\u2019re an online retailer. It comes with free shipping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We couldn\u2019t find the exact same hammock on Amazon, but we did find many similar ones. It also has a wide range of products, free shipping, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.temu.com\/support\/c3\/how-to-return-or-exchange-an-item-on-temu-f-50-s-115.html\">a generous 90-day return policy<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if customers want to gamify their shopping, they can do that with the Temu app, which bakes cheery and addicting games into the shopping process.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there are a few things going against Temu here:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>It\u2019s too new.<\/strong> While Chinese shoppers are very familiar with Temu\u2019s parent company, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.pinduoduo.com\/group\">PDD Holdings<\/a>, English-speaking countries aren\u2019t. Because of that, Temu hasn\u2019t built up the same trust level Amazon enjoys. Even if the products come from the same place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It goes against the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0167811602000964#:~:text=Price%E2%80%93quality%20schema%20is%20defined,236).\"><strong>price-quality schema<\/strong><\/a><strong>. <\/strong>It\u2019s a well-established theory in marketing that in a customer\u2019s eyes, lower prices indicate lower quality. (We explore this topic a little more in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/price-sensitivity\/\">our guide to understanding price sensitivity<\/a>.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It\u2019s not sustainable.<\/strong> As climate change marches forward, customers have become more aware of which products and services impact the environment less than others. Temu isn\u2019t known for its commitment to sustainability. We <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/results\/ue5ZvdLHjN\">asked 50 U.S.-based Amazon shoppers<\/a> these questions: \u201cDo you know what Temu is? If so, what do you think about it? If not, what do you think it might be?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div data-getsitecontrol-inline=\"422708\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a sample of some of the comments our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/products\/open-ended-polls\">Open-Ended poll<\/a> received:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cTemu is cheap stuff directly from China. A lot of it is sold on Amazon without people knowing. I think it&#8217;s cheap and awful.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI am familiar with Temu. I ordered a few things and found that the quality is not consistent. Some items were of good quality, others were junk. Not worth saving a few bucks to order from it.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI have spent close to $1,000 dollars on that site. I shop there just about every day. I have had nothing but positive experiences with it. Returns are easy and the prices are great as is the selection.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI know that Temu is an online company that ships products directly from China very cheaply. I don&#8217;t like the company. I think it is exploitative and is contributing to the decline of the environment.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI don&#8217;t know what Temu is. The people who know what Temu is like the good deals, the easy returns process, and the fun shopping experience.
