Check out the three offbeat hiking snacks we love at SafeTrail Emergency Kits.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Option A is short, snappy, and authoritative. Option B is longer and more conversational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We thought shorter always meant better when it came to email newsletters, so we were surprised to find that 25 hikers chose Option A and 25 chose Option B.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words?<br><br>We got a statistically insignificant <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/headline-testing\/\" class=\"ek-link\">headline testing<\/a><\/em><\/strong> poll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So we dove into the feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The respondents who picked Option A had this to say about their choice:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThis one is more attention-grabbing. I want to know what the 3 wacky snacks are.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cWhile [Option B] is more informative, I know I skip over emails with a long subject. I am choosing Option A just because it&#8217;s shorter.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cOption A is shorter and more to the point, it also engages curiosity better.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These hikers found the short title easier to digest. While they thought Option B was good too, they didn\u2019t want to read a long subject line. Plus, they were intrigued by the idea of wacky snacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not so for the 25 hikers who chose Option B. Here\u2019s what they said about the copy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cI think [Option A] is too boring. Option B sounds more appealing with the rhetorical questions and emphasizes emergency kits, which is an important feature.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI like the recognition that trail foods are often the same thing. It makes me think about it and want different ideas which is why Option B is my top choice. I also prefer offbeat to wacky. Wacky makes me think there&#8217;s something really odd about the options, while offbeat just makes me think it&#8217;s a bit different.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cI kind of like the lead-in question \u2018sick of eating sandwiches&#8230;\u2019 It grabbed my attention more than the 3 wacky snack foods headline.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These respondents favored Option B because it seemed more relevant to hiking, used a more appropriate word to describe the snacks\u2014\u201doffbeat\u201d instead of \u201cwacky\u201d\u2014and provided more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing that united this group of hikers? Their aversion to the phrase \u201cwacky snacks.\u201d Out of 25 respondents, 10 stated that they did <em>not <\/em>like the idea of a wacky snack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here\u2019s what the statistical insignificance shows us: if SafeTrail Emergency Kits was a real company that actually sent Option A to its customers, 50% of them might be completely turned off by it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yikes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why testing the copy <em>before<\/em> it goes live is key. Whether you\u2019re a team of <strong><em>FBA sellers<\/em><\/strong> or a startup or an established business, understanding your audience is crucial. So is using copy that sounds trustworthy, informative, and fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But not wacky.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Why-is-copy-testing-important\">Why is copy testing important?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Words are critical to the success of your ads, landing pages, product descriptions, and other marketing assets. Copy testing is important because it helps ensure that those words appeal to the people reading them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obviously, design is crucial too. But other research suggests that <a href=\"https:\/\/unbounce.com\/landing-pages\/copy-design-more-important-landing-page-success\/\">copy is <em>more<\/em> important than design<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unbounce, which specializes in building landing pages, analyzed more than 36,000 pages, using a machine-learning model to predict conversion rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It found that across 16 industries, copy had twice the impact on landing page conversions as design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from helping you craft copy that converts, what are the benefits of copy testing? That\u2019s because it gives you the chance to optimize the content.
