{"id":"5838","date":"2020-09-28T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/?p=5838"},"modified":"2023-11-14T08:15:34","modified_gmt":"2023-11-14T16:15:34","slug":"google-analytics-metrics-e-commerce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.pickfu.com\/google-analytics-metrics-e-commerce\/","title":{"rendered":"5 Google Analytics Metrics that Will Move the E-commerce Needle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong>Editor&#8217;s note<\/strong>: Thanks to Spela Miekuz of Databox for this guest post on Google Analytics metrics. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To generate more e-commerce sales, whether that&#8217;s on your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/google-shopping-optimization\/\" class=\"ek-link\">Google Shopping store<\/a> or on your website, sellers need to get good at <a aria-label=\"analyzing  (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/databox.com\/google-analytics-for-ecommerce-store\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">analyzing data and spotting trends in Google Analytics.<\/a> Because it&#8217;s easy to focus on vanity metrics like pageviews or get stuck in analysis paralysis, we\u2019re sharing five crucial metrics to look at to help you move the needle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ecommerce-conversion-rate\">E-commerce conversion rate<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>This one should be a no-brainer. \u201cIf I could provide only one tip for tracking your e-commerce performance in Google Analytics, it would be conversions,\u201d says Nadia Duwaik of Cleure. \u201cAfter all, conversions equal money earned, and at the end of the day, that is the main driving force of any e-commerce site. You can have an increase in site traffic, but if you aren&#8217;t tracking your conversion rate and implementing measures to increase it, you are missing out on sales.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aim for a conversion rate of 3% or better. If you&#8217;re below that, devise a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/e-commerce-marketing-strategy\/\" class=\"ek-link\">strategy to improve your conversion rate<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"firsttime-vs-returning-visitors\">First-time vs. returning visitors<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>What percentage of your customers are first-time buyers versus repeat customers?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For first-time buyers, consider an automated savings message or a free trial on a premium service plan. Have a strategy in place to capture new visitors to your site.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, if you have a significant percentage of repeat buyers, this likely means you have loyal customers. Implementing a loyalty or customer referral program could go a long way in generating more sales quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"visitor-behavior-flow\">Visitor behavior flow<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>\u201cKeep a close watch on your shopping behavior flow as your conversion rate is key to running a successful e-commerce store,\u201d says Alistair Dodds of Ever Increasing Circles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMonitor particularly the flow from sessions with add to cart, sessions with checkout, and sessions with transactions. Any sudden reduction in flow will indicate an issue with your checkout process and, potentially, site speed issues. Close monitoring and analysis of this flow are essential.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"top-traffic-drivers\">Top traffic drivers<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Do you know which sources are driving the most traffic to your site?<br><br>Use <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/answer\/6010097?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Default Channel Grouping (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Default Channel Grouping<\/a> to track the channels that are sending you the most traffic and which ones are resulting in the most sales. Adjust your marketing budget and channel efforts accordingly. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"enhanced-ecommerce-report\">Enhanced e-commerce report<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Finally, make sure to install the <a aria-label=\"Enhanced E-commerce reporting plugin (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/analytics\/devguides\/collection\/analyticsjs\/enhanced-ecommerce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" class=\"ek-link\">enhanced e-commerce reporting plugin<\/a>. This plugin is especially valuable for sites with 100 or more product SKUs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The enhanced report provides a complete view of users&#8217; pre-purchase shopping behavior and the performance of each product. The plugin offers other reports such as checkout behavior and product list performance.
