Since then, crowdfunding has grown into a multibillion-dollar global industry. The word and the concept are part of our daily lives. Scores of entrepreneurs take their ideas to Kickstarter, Indiegogo, GoFundMe, and other crowdfunding platforms with one goal: to raise enough money to turn those ideas into reality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Success in crowdfunding hinges on the support of the crowd \u2014 your future customers. In this article, we&#8217;ll delve into how to create and launch a successful crowdfunding campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-crowdfunding\">What is crowdfunding?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Crowdfunding is an online method of raising money to finance a product, project, or business. Contributions come from a large group of people as opposed to a handful of investors.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-types-of-crowdfunding\">Types of crowdfunding<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>The two types of crowdfunding you\u2019re probably most familiar with are donation-based and rewards-based.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In donation-based crowdfunding, people give money to your campaign without getting anything in return. In general, you set a monetary goal and time frame for your campaign. The platform on which you launch your campaign gets a percentage of the money you raise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Kickstarter (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Kickstarter<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiegogo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Indiegogo (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">Indiegogo<\/a>, two of the most popular rewards-based sites, operate on this premise: if you hit your campaign goal, you keep the money you\u2019ve raised. If not, your donors get their money back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indiegogo also offers flexible funding, which means you can keep the money you raise, even if you don\u2019t reach your goal.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-ups-and-downs-of-crowdfunding\">The ups and downs of crowdfunding<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Crowdfunding helps create a community for your product. It gives entrepreneurs who might have a hard time getting financing through traditional channels a platform to pitch their ideas and be heard. From board games to biodegradable shoes, there\u2019s plenty of variety and creativity to be found and funded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, there\u2019s no guarantee you\u2019ll reach your crowdfunding goal. Your crowdfunding campaign page gives it shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key elements of a crowdfunding campaign page are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>title and tagline<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>story<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>photos and\/or videos<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>rewards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Your page also shows your crowdfunding goal, deadline, and progress.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-importance-of-consumer-feedback-in-crowdfunding\">The importance of consumer feedback in crowdfunding<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve done a ton of work to get to this point. You have photos, a video, and what you believe is a compelling story. You feel ready to launch your crowdfunding campaign and, fingers crossed, watch the donations roll in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not so fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that statistic about how few campaigns actually get funded? Get feedback from your potential customers <em>before<\/em> launching your crowdfunding campaign to understand their needs. However, respondents had more than a few <em>buts<\/em> that might make the entrepreneur reconsider. Here\u2019s a sampling of their comments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThis is a good idea, although I think I have seen similar items made of mesh or net being sold currently.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cOf course it is, as long as it doesn\u2019t get in the way of the players playing.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cIt isn\u2019t a bad idea. I just don\u2019t know if it\u2019s really been a problem that needs solving.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThis seems like a good idea as long as it&#8217;s not too cumbersome to reach into the bag to pick out a ball without dropping more balls on the floor or having trouble keeping the bag from tipping over.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-product-name\">Product name<\/h4>\n\n\n<p>You might have several options for the name of your product or business. How do you know which one will resonate with customers? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/blog\/test-your-business-name\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" class=\"ek-link\">Split test them on PickFu<\/a>.
