The answer is complicated, as one seller discovered in <a aria-label=\"this product image split test on PickFu (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pickfu.com\/ecommerce\/product-images\/which-product-image-would-you-click-on-amazon-and-why-Q031LWE7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"ek-link\">this product image split test on PickFu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seller asked 50 respondents between ages 18-44 which of three main images they&#8217;d click on for a face mask called Cake My Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Each image positions the product differently. Option A focuses on the package, which is similar to an ice cream container, with green olives beside it. Option B shows the open container and the cute smiley-face lid. The olives felt &#8220;misleading&#8221; and &#8220;irrelevant,&#8221; respondents said. But the main reason respondents didn&#8217;t like Option A was that it didn&#8217;t show the contents of the playful container.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That left Options B and C. One male respondent liked Option B because it &#8220;showed the inside of the snack.&#8221; &#8220;Option C gives you a great look at the ice cream,&#8221; another male respondent said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least five other people commented on the delicious-looking &#8220;food&#8221; or &#8220;ice cream&#8221; in the &#8220;carton.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two issues here regarding buyer perception that the seller needs to address, whether in the packaging, product description, or title (or all of the above). First, the mask is meant to look like cake frosting, not ice cream. Second, of course, is that the product is neither ice cream nor frosting. I prefer [Option B] over [Option C] because the cap with the smiley face is cute.&#8221;<\/p><p>&#8220;[Option B is best] because it offers a closeup of the product and also shows you the lid. [Option C] is also a good product image but the cute lid isn&#8217;t in the photo. [Option A] is my least favorite because you have no idea what the product actually looks like and you don&#8217;t see how fun it is.&#8221;<\/p><p>&#8220;For [Option A], the olive makes it look very healthy and serious about its purpose. Option B looks more lively and fun but it is hard for me to take <g class=\"gr_ gr_23 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"23\" data-gr-id=\"23\">seriously<\/g> because it looks like frosting&#8230;something I would NEVER put on my face. Option A looks <g class=\"gr_ gr_15 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"15\" data-gr-id=\"15\">all out<\/g> crazy, just frosting in a jar and I cannot take it seriously.&#8221;<\/p><p>&#8220;I like [Option C] because it looks like it has more ice cream and it looks good, then [Option B] because I like how the ice cream looks more than [Option A] which doesn&#8217;t show the ice cream.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-key-takeaways\">Key takeaways<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>If your product packaging is cute, show it off, especially if your target audience skews younger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it&#8217;s also important to make sure your main image lets shoppers know exactly what to expect from your product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s one more interesting twist: the seller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/DEW-CARE-Hydrating-Sprinkle-Wash-Off\/dp\/B07XTQ4CWD\/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&amp;keywords=cake+my+day&amp;qid=1621311105&amp;sr=8-1-spons&amp;psc=1&amp;spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzQUU1MENDUjRFTTJFJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMzYxMjY3RlgzQ1lDQjc1QTFDJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAyMzY1NzRKOTZORVM3SU40NlImd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" class=\"ek-link\">chose to use Option A<\/a> \u2014 the one with the olives \u2014 for its Amazon main image. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They must have paid attention to the food-related comments and decided that Option A was the least misleading of the three image options.
