# How it works

If you need to reach a highly specific audience that isn't available through our standard 115+ targeting categories, PickFu offers custom audience recruitment. We'll work with you to identify, screen and recruit a specialized respondent group tailored to your research.

1.  **Tell us what you need.** Contact us at [support@pickfu.com](mailto:support@pickfu.com) or through the chat icon at the bottom of any help center page. Describe the audience segment you're looking for – the more specific, the better.
    
2.  **We assess feasibility.** Our team evaluates whether we can enlist enough respondents matching your criteria. Some niche audiences take time to build, and not all segments are reachable, so we'll be upfront about what's possible.
    
3.  **We build the audience.** If we can reach your segment, we'll recruit and verify respondents who match your criteria. This process may take a few weeks depending on how specialized the audience is.
    
4.  **You poll them.** Once your custom audience is ready, it appears as a targetable option in your account. You can use it just like any other targeting trait when building polls.
    

# What it costs

There is no charge for the audience-building process itself – we can't guarantee we'll be able to reach every niche, so we don't charge unless we succeed. If we're able to build your custom audience, there is a recurring fee to maintain the audience on your account, and additional per-response fees may apply depending on the scarcity of your audience segment.

Custom audiences require an active PickFu subscription.

# When to consider a custom audience

Custom audiences make sense when you need respondents with very specific professional backgrounds (e.g., licensed nurses, commercial pilots), highly niche interests or behaviors not covered by standard traits, or regional or cultural segments beyond our standard country panels.

Before requesting a custom audience, check our [full list of targeting traits](https://www.pickfu.com/audiences) — you might find that a combination of existing categories gets you close enough and is generally our suggested approach.

Although we are always happy to research the viability of a niche audience and create it if it meets our quality standards, sometimes even after a new custom panel is created for you, it still might not work out for your needs. If that happens, your recurring maintenance fee will end.

## How long does it take to build a custom audience?

It varies based on the segment. Some audiences can be assembled in a week or two; very niche segments may take longer. We'll give you a timeline estimate after assessing your request.

## Can I use a custom audience with other targeting traits?

Yes. Once a custom audience is added to your account, you can combine it with other standard targeting categories (up to the four-category limit). However, it may impact the completion rates of your surveys.

## What if you can't build my audience?

If we determine that a segment is too narrow or difficult to reach reliably, we'll let you know and suggest alternatives — like broader targeting combined with demographic questions to approximate your desired audience.

## Is there a minimum commitment?

Custom audiences require an active subscription plan. Contact us for details about the specific terms for your audience.
