Q: Why do you shop on eBay?

Open-ended poll

AI Summary

The survey results indicate that the primary reason people shop on eBay is to find unique or hard-to-find items, often at a lower price than other retailers. Many respondents also noted that they appreciate the variety of products available on eBay, especially for older or obsolete technology and vintage or antique items. The auction feature was also mentioned as a draw for some shoppers, as it allows them to potentially get a better deal on high-priced items. Additionally, some respondents noted that they feel more comfortable buying used items on eBay due to buyer protection policies.

Another interesting finding from this survey is the range of products that people are shopping for on eBay. While some respondents mentioned purchasing electronics like phones and tablets, others were looking for clothing, car parts, retro gaming equipment, and even rare sports cards. This suggests that there may be opportunities for eBay to further segment their offerings based on specific interests or product categories.

Based on these results, it would be interesting to conduct further research into what motivates shoppers to choose between buying new versus used items on eBay. Additionally, it would be valuable to explore how much trust consumers have in individual sellers versus larger businesses operating through the platform. Finally, given the popularity of auctions among some respondents in this survey, it may be worthwhile for eBay to experiment with different auction formats (e.g., timed auctions) or incentives (e.g., discounts for bidding early) in order to attract more buyers and sellers alike.

I shop on ebay to buy second-hand but still good items that lack other good marketplaces to find them.

To look for rare items in genres that I am interested in.

They often have the cheapest prices. Their sneaker section is also pretty legit. I've bought a few pairs for much cheaper than other sites, brand new.

Cheaper prices and bargains mainly. It's almost always better than shopping for the item directly.

Usually, I am looking for electronics that are still relatively new, maybe a year or two old. This includes iPhones, iWatches, Wacom tablets, Alexa devices, etc.

Because it enables me to compared different prices with other online shops and at times they have a better deal for the products.

there are some things that are not sold anywhere else. shoppers are also prioritized over sellers

It's a good way for me to find out of print items for my hobbies

They have a wider range of older products like vintage music, games, clothes, etc. sold by real people that owned these items. Amazon doesn't have these.

Because the prices are typically better on eBay than anywhere else.

I try to get good deals on used items with some form of buyer protection.

I don't shop on ebay-- I don't trust the sellers on there

I like to collect old sports cards. This is the only place that I can seem to find a lot of them. I have always had good experiences with them, too.

I shop on eBay for the great deals.

I shop on ebay for products that can't be found on amazon.

Used goods or things that are no longer being sold. Specifically I like buying older computer parts that while older, are still plenty good for modern applications.

My main reason for shopping on ebay is to buy electronic components, especially TV parts, that I can't buy elsewhere without paying for brand new pieces.

I shop on eBay to be able to find a wider range of offering for vintage and antique items than what I would find locally.

Personally for me it's because I can't find the jeans that fit me the right way and I can always find them on eBay after a lot of searching I wear a 4 long. And American Eagle outfitters they're too expensive but it's only brand that fits me and actually looks good and they're not too short they are actually really long I can usually find jeans on there I'd like to buy them knew but I can't afford them

I like the massive amount of used items I can buy that I can't really get anywhere else. Obsolete technology is one of my favorite items to shop for on eBay.

They have great deals on items I want.

I can find used items in good condition that are cheaper than new. I can also find unique items.

Because the price is reasonable and eBay has a huge categories of items for shopping

I shop on eBay because it is so convenient and the prices are usually lower than elsewhere.

You can find good quality used products for a fraction of the price.

There are a few reasons for me to purchase items on eBay. First, many items on eBay are cheaper, even for the Buy It Now price. Second, many listings provide auction functions. If you are lucky, you can get pretty good deals on eBay using auctions. Third, if you only have limited budget, eBay provides many second-handed items with very low price. Those are good options when budget is limited.

I shop on eBay because a lot of times the sellers offer lower prices than other sites. They offer used items at discounts and sometimes even new items. I can find items that are older as well and no longer for sale at other places. I mostly use eBay for car parts.

sometimes better deals than on amazon. if the price is significantly better. usually it take smuch longer to ship and their return policy isn't as good though.

It used to be because you could get lucky and win an auction for an item that was undervalued. That does not happen much anymore since the site has grown so much. There are a couple different reasons I currently shop on eBay. There are many unique items to be found there. You can watch and then bid and rebid on an item on an item, then wait to see if you win at the end of the action. If it is something you really want you can simply "Buy It Now.The other reason I shop eBay is that there are professional businesses selling on eBay for example I have purchased car tires a couple times from a high volume seller. I have been happy with the price and quality. eBay Motors in general is good for deals if you shop carefully. To sum it up, besides getting good prices, it can be more fun to shop on eBay.

I shop on eBay when I'm looking for something that I can find on Amazon or if I'm not finding the price I wish to pay. I use eBay a lot when I'm looking for a specific item, especially high priced items where I might be able to make an offer on a product and get a better deal. I really like their offer feature.

Winning Option: Characteristics and Appeal

  • Option B emerged as the preferred brand packaging design, securing 12 out of 15 votes. Respondents frequently highlighted its aesthetic appeal, emphasizing the luxurious and high-quality impression it conveys. The ability to stack packages was a notable practical advantage mentioned by participants.
  • Several respondents appreciated the monochrome color scheme of Option B, which they found less overwhelming compared to more colorful designs. This preference for simplicity suggests that minimalistic designs may resonate well with this group.
  • Additionally, environmental considerations played a role in favoring Option B; some participants noted its reduced plastic usage and recyclability as attractive features.

Key Topics Across Options

  1. Aesthetic Appeal: Across both options, aesthetics were crucial in influencing preferences. Participants often referred to colors and overall design quality when justifying their choices.

  2. Environmental Concerns: Both options had respondents who valued environmentally friendly aspects of packaging. However, while Option A was praised for being reusable and eco-friendly by some, others perceived Option B’s reduced plastic use as more sustainable.

  3. Practicality: Practical elements such as ease of stacking (Option B) or suitability for travel (Option B) were significant factors in decision-making processes.

Hypotheses for Further Testing

  • Investigate whether minimalistic designs consistently outperform colorful ones across different demographic groups or product categories.

  • Explore if environmental messaging on packaging significantly influences consumer preference when compared with other attributes like luxury perception or practicality.

  • Assess how important stacking capability is relative to other functional benefits in various contexts such as home storage versus travel convenience.

These hypotheses can guide further research into understanding deeper consumer motivations behind packaging preferences observed in this survey context.
