Prefer keeping original, I want to imagine what they look like.

A

I still prefer covers without people.

A

I like clean and simple. I also like leaving more to the imagination.

A

Prefer just the palm trees and bright sunset colors.

A

B looks cheesy. I wouldn’t buy it.

A

It fits the series best. None of the other books have any figures.

A

Books with dogs on the cover tend to be “fluffy.” I think the original keeps it real. Plus, Sophie is a badass and B looks too Tomb Raider-y.

A

Keeps with the series look.

A

I don't like covers that depict a character. I prefer my imagination. I also think the pic of the woman and dog just doesn't fit.

A

Prefer not to have people on cover.

A

The image of the woman and dog would be less likely to interest me in the book because it comes across

B

I prefer the woman and dog on the cover.

B

I will always read a book with a dog, cat, horse etc... on the cover.

B

Looks more inviting.

B

If I had not read her books before this would have got me interested.

B

Better visualization of the story.

B

I like that it incorporates Sophie & her sidekick. They are who the book revolves around and I love the idea of them being portrayed on the cover!

B

Just by having a dog working with her, I'm more intrigued.

B

Dogs always get the click!

B

I'm always drawn to a cover with animals, especially dogs. I think it says something about a protagonists character!

B

More appealing, gives a better feel for the story line and adds character to the cover.

B

It doesn't look so bland and boring.

B

More eye catching but the dog is wrong breed.

B

Tells me more about the story and is intriguing, plus I love dogs.

B

Fits the story

B

Feels more about a person

B

It tells you what the book will be about

B

Represents the main characters

B

B gives you more of an idea of what could be in the book. A is too plain

B

I prefer knowing if this is about A Sophie or a Jack Reacher w/o reading the back.

B

I'm a dog lover, always drawn to books with dogs. However, I usually read kindle books so the cover design isn't real important to me

B

Cover A is like an empty canvas. Cover B has more appeal.

B

The addition of a woman and dog help potential readers to understand their importance in the stories.

B

The character is intriguing. I think it would definitely grab the attention of people who want to read about strong female leads.

B

I think that the addition of the woman and the dog makes it look more interesting.

B

Marketing experts say that including a human being will always attract the eye to any graphic. It will be where the eye goes first. Add in a dog, and you get a double dip of attention grabbing power!

B

Gives you an induction of main characters

B

Looks more interesting with a woman and more intriguing witht the dog.

B

Just like this cover design/look better.

B

GIves a better feel for the story line - A has an otherworldly sci-fi look about it

B

Doggo always wins!

B

The cover looks complete with the women and dog.

B

make the cover more appealing

B

It lets me know upfront that there is a strong female heroine and a fury sidekick.

B

More personality, more hint that it might interest me. a could be a male spy or soldier book.

B

It’s powerful! This book is going to be about a BA woman and her dog! How very appealing to a person who likes books that include those things.

B

B just gives enough more info on what the book is about. A makes you think computers but B says computers and a bad ass woman with a dog!

B

I tend to like covers that have the characters on them. Although with Lei.... I liked the covers too. Guess I'm not helping! But Sophie and the dog grabs your attention.

B

I like dogs. Actually, both covers are nice.

B

It visibly let's you know the book content.....!!!

Winning Option: Characteristics and Appeal

  • Option B emerged as the preferred brand packaging design, securing 12 out of 15 votes. Respondents frequently highlighted its aesthetic appeal, emphasizing the luxurious and high-quality impression it conveys. The ability to stack packages was a notable practical advantage mentioned by participants.
  • Several respondents appreciated the monochrome color scheme of Option B, which they found less overwhelming compared to more colorful designs. This preference for simplicity suggests that minimalistic designs may resonate well with this group.
  • Additionally, environmental considerations played a role in favoring Option B; some participants noted its reduced plastic usage and recyclability as attractive features.

Key Topics Across Options

  1. Aesthetic Appeal: Across both options, aesthetics were crucial in influencing preferences. Participants often referred to colors and overall design quality when justifying their choices.

  2. Environmental Concerns: Both options had respondents who valued environmentally friendly aspects of packaging. However, while Option A was praised for being reusable and eco-friendly by some, others perceived Option B’s reduced plastic use as more sustainable.

  3. Practicality: Practical elements such as ease of stacking (Option B) or suitability for travel (Option B) were significant factors in decision-making processes.

Hypotheses for Further Testing

  • Investigate whether minimalistic designs consistently outperform colorful ones across different demographic groups or product categories.

  • Explore if environmental messaging on packaging significantly influences consumer preference when compared with other attributes like luxury perception or practicality.

  • Assess how important stacking capability is relative to other functional benefits in various contexts such as home storage versus travel convenience.

These hypotheses can guide further research into understanding deeper consumer motivations behind packaging preferences observed in this survey context.
