A was really amusing, looks like a psychotic Hulk Hogan. That would get my interest. All of them are good, but A was the best of the lot.
I liked choice A since the character is very excited and is highly detailed with the spit coming from their mouth which also fit the background the best.
I think I'd be most drawn to Option A. The character is expression is just so dynamic and intense! He looks really determined and ready for battle, which definitely fits the vibe of a strategy game. The other two are bit more goofy, but this one feels like its is got some real energy. Plus, the wat this mouth is open and the teeth are showing, it just grabs your attention. It makes me think the game is going to be exciting and action- packed, which is exactly what I'd be looking for in a strategy game.
I prefer choice B because not only do I like the facial expression more, but I also like the background color in choice B as well.
Honestly I dont find any of these options appealing because I find the abundance of spit gross and offputting. Option b would be first though because at least the spit is contained to his mouth and face.
I think the drool on the character's mouth is the least gross and obvious in B compared to A or C.
I like C the most because it looks like he's shouting. In A and B he looks like he's drooling
I ranked them in the order that I found them least disgusting, I really didn't like the saliva in all the images.
I like the look of this one. it's mean and tough looking so I would think it was a good character to have.

Option C emerged as the clear winner, receiving the highest score of 60 and being ranked first by 9 respondents in the initial round. The primary appeal of Option C was its dynamic and energetic depiction, which many respondents associated with excitement and action—qualities they found fitting for a strategy game. Unlike Options A and B, which some participants perceived as having an off-putting amount of drool or less engaging expressions, Option C's portrayal was often described as "yelling" or "shouting," suggesting intensity and involvement.
Several themes emerged consistently across the survey responses:
Visual Appeal: Respondents frequently commented on the visual elements such as facial expressions and background colors. The balance between dynamic imagery versus off-putting details like excessive saliva played a significant role in their preferences.
Perceived Energy Level: Many participants favored icons that conveyed high energy or action-oriented vibes. This perception seemed crucial in aligning with expectations for strategy games.
Character Presentation: The way characters were depicted—whether looking determined, angry, or tough—was central to how appealing each option was considered.
Based on these findings, several hypotheses could be explored further:
Impact of Saliva Representation: Investigate whether reducing visible saliva would increase appeal across different demographics.
Color Scheme Influence: Test how changes in background color impact preference when combined with character expression variations.
Expression Intensity Correlation: Examine if more intense facial expressions consistently lead to higher engagement levels among strategy game enthusiasts.
These hypotheses could provide deeper insights into optimizing app icon designs to better attract target audiences within mobile gaming markets.
