Frequently Asked Questions

What is PickFu?
PickFu is a preference testing service for your creative options. You present choices, such as a proposed book cover, mobile app icon, or block of copy, and our audience helps you choose the best one and tells you why they think so.
What makes you better than those other polling services?
  1. Insight: Our patent-pending polling service provides you both answers and analysis. See all the explanations behind each choice, as well as demographic breakdowns of preference. You're bound to find an answer to your problem, as well as new angles to approach it.
  2. Speed: You get results in minutes and hours, not days or weeks.
  3. Simplicity: It takes less than one minute to ask a poll. Results are easy to understand and actionable.
  4. Savings: Go ahead and compare. We deliver insights that others can't offer at one-tenth of the price.
Why ask a poll?
Because it's always good to get a second (or third, or fiftieth) opinion for your important decisions, especially because the opinions PickFu provides are unbiased. It helps get you out of your echo chamber, and arms you with quantifiable reinforcement of the best choice.
Who can ask a poll?
Anyone can ask a poll and discover interesting results. Many of our customers are small businesses, new startup ventures, self-publishing authors, and internet and mobile gaming companies.
How much does it cost?
Polls cost 25 credits. Our most basic credit package starts at just $50 to get responses and explanations from 50 different people. We also offer subscription plans.

What kind of results do I get?

Each set of results includes the following:

  • Answer tally: Stats on how many people (and what percentage) chose each option.
  • Answer comments: Each respondent explains why she chose what she did. These comments are often remarkably insightful. Many customers say it’s the most useful part of our service.
  • Demographic info: Demographic data about those who answered your poll, including gender, age, race, income, and educational level - displayed on pretty charts and broken down by each answer.
Can I target specific demographics to respond to my poll?
Yes! You can target the following demographics: Age, Amazon Prime Membership, App Store Spending, Audiobook Listener, Book Format, Books Read Per Month, Cat Owner, Coffee Drinker, Community Type, Crowdfunding Participation, Cryptocurrency, Diet, Dog Owner, Education, Employment Status, Ethnicity, Exercise Frequency, Gender, Home Ownership, Income, Literary Preference, Mobile Device, Number of Kids, Play Mobile Games, Podcast Listener, Political Affiliation, Primary Mode of Transportation, Relationship Status, Religious Affiliation, Sexual Orientation, Smoker, Tablet, Tea Drinker, and US Geographic Region.
What does it mean when it says my poll is "Private"?
Private polls are not listed in our public directory. Respondents will see the poll to answer it, but the only people who will be able to see the poll's final results are those that you share the URL with.
What kind of content can I test? Text? Images? Video?

You can test text, images or even video. Just make sure all your options are the same type of content.

Type your text directly into each option textbox. The maximum length for your text is 1000 characters. HTML or rich formatting is not allowed. If you need to test a particular style of text, use an image.

  • Click on the camera icon in the option text box. That will open your browser's file prompt to select an image to upload.
  • Click on your image file (either on your desktop or from your computer's file browser). Hold down the click and drag the image over the text box for the option. When you see the text box glow, release the click to drop the file.

In both cases, the image should start uploading right away.

If you place a single URL into the option textbox, it will be clickable for the respondents. For example, if you'd like to show something on an external website.

Similar to a link, just place the link to your video into the text box. If it's a YouTube or Vimeo video we will auto-embed the video so respondents can view the video without clicking off the website.

How do I download the results?
If you're a subscriber or have paid for the download option, go to your poll page and click on the "Download" link on the top of the page. You'll get a CSV (comma-separated value) spreadsheet that you can open in any spreadsheet application (such as MS Excel and Google Sheets). With these raw results, you can run your own analysis.
Can I add more responses to an existing poll?
Yes! If you need more insight on an existing poll, look for the "Get More Responses" link at the top of your poll.

Who answers my polls?
We have a broad set of US-based respondents that are paid to answer your poll questions. We use a variety of safeguards to ensure that the workers who participate in your polls answer them honestly and seriously.
What are the demographics of the respondents?
Our respondents are representative of broad US demographics. You can view the demographics of our workers here.
Do the respondents see my results?
No. The respondents see a different page than the one you see, and there is no identifying information on it -- they only see the question and answer options. The only way they would see the results is if it's a public poll, it’s posted in our public gallery, but even then, they are not able to change their given answer.

What's a credit?
Credits are used to purchase polls on PickFu. You can purchase credits through one-time transactions as needed, or through one of our subscription plans.
Do credits expire?
Credits expire 1 year from the purchase date. We'll use your oldest credits first and send you email reminders when they get close to expiration.
Can I get a receipt?
Whenever a credit card charge is made, you will be emailed a receipt. A PDF invoice is attached should your company need one. If you'd like to update your contact information on the invoice, go to your account page and look for the "Update Password, Billing, Email" link.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes! We use the industry standard encryption protocol (SSL) to safeguard all of your personal information. Our payment processor, Stripe, is PCI-compliant and your credit card information is sent directly to them.

I no longer need my subscription. Can I receive a refund?
To receive a refund, you must contact us within 7 business days of your renewal, and we will refund the last month of subscription.
Do you have an affiliate program?
Yes, we have an affiliate program for partners that promote PickFu. Apply for the program here.
Do you offer phone consultation?
We offer e-mail and chat based support and consultation. If you are on a Business plan or higher, you can schedule phone consultation time with a team member.

How can I trust the results?
While any individual opinion might be biased, there's accuracy (and insight) in numbers. And because our workers are not affiliated with your brand or cause, you'll get fresh eyes and truly unbiased answers to your polls.
Is this a scientific poll/perfectly random sampling of the general public?
No - carrying out a perfectly representative poll would cost thousands of dollars and take much more time to complete. PickFu offers quick opinions and insights from an unbiased group with similar demographics as the general population for a tiny fraction of the cost.
Is my satisfaction guaranteed?
Satisfaction-guaranteed Yes. We stand behind our service 100%. If you are unsatisfied, please contact us, and we will gladly refund your credits so that you can run your poll again. However, please be aware we cannot offer cash refunds for polls that have already been run.
I made a mistake. Can I stop my poll?
We cannot pause or stop and restart a poll once it has begun to receive responses because if a poll question or its options were to be edited mid-way, the results would be unreliable. Please take advantage of the Preview function before publishing your poll. We do not issue refunds for typos and other user errors.
My poll ended in a tie. What now?
Sometimes ties occur, and there are several ways to interpret a tied result. It might mean the audience saw little discernible difference between the options presented. Or it might mean that equal-sized segments showed a strong preference for their choice. But a tie is information that in itself can be valuable. Here are several real-world examples of tied PickFu polls. Because ties are valid poll results, PickFu does not offer refunds in the event of ties.
Are the options shown to responders in random order?
Yes, we randomize the order of the options. However, we keep the labeling consistent (i.e., ”A” or "B"). This means that while the order of options will change (sometimes Option B will be presented before Option A), Option B will be called Option B in both instances. Here's an example poll to demonstrate.
