How do I test URLs or text with PickFu?

How to add text options and URL options in the survey builder, including character limits, URL rules, and tips.

Updated over a week ago

Type or paste text directly into each option slot in the survey builder. To test a URL, paste the full link — PickFu renders a clickable preview so respondents can visit the page before answering. Text options have a 5,000-character limit per option.

Testing text options

To test text, type or paste your content directly into the option fields in the survey builder. Each option supports up to 5,000 characters.

Text options work well for testing:

  • Product names and brand names

  • Taglines and slogans

  • Ad copy and marketing headlines

  • Product descriptions and bullet points

  • Email subject lines

  • App store descriptions

All text options should be formatted consistently. If one option is a single word, the others should be too. If one is a full paragraph, match that level of detail across all options so respondents compare the content, not the length.

Text options work with all poll types: Head-to-Head, Ranked, Single Select, Multi Select, Open-Ended, Star Rating, Emoji Reaction, and Screen Recording.

Testing URLs

To test a URL, paste the full link (including https://) into the option field. PickFu generates a clickable link so respondents can visit the page and evaluate it before answering your question.

URL options are useful for testing:

  • Landing pages

  • Live product listings

  • Website designs

  • Competitor comparisons

A few important rules for URL tests:

  • The page must be publicly accessible — no login required.

  • Don't ask respondents to sign up for an account, download anything, or make a purchase.

  • Tell respondents what to look for in your question (e.g., "Visit each page and tell us which feels more trustworthy").

For Amazon listings specifically, consider using the ASIN import or mockup features for a more controlled test. See What types of content can I test with PickFu? for all available options.

When to use text vs. images

Use text when the words are what you're testing — naming, messaging, copy, descriptions. If the question is "which name sounds better?" or "which subject line would you open?", text options are the way to go.

Use images when you're testing visual design — packaging, logos, screenshots, layouts. If respondents need to see the design to evaluate it, upload images.

If you're testing something with both visual and text elements (e.g., a social media ad with a headline and image), upload the full creative as an image rather than splitting the text and visuals into separate options. This way respondents evaluate the complete experience.

Tips for text and URL tests

Keep option length consistent. If one option is a single word, don't make another a full paragraph. Respondents tend to gravitate toward options that are easier to process, which can skew results if lengths vary significantly.

For A/B naming tests, keep it simple. Include only the name variations without extra explanation. Let the names speak for themselves.

For URL tests, guide respondents. Since they're visiting external pages, your question should tell them exactly what to evaluate — overall impression, trustworthiness, ease of finding information, etc.

Use question context when helpful. If respondents need background information to evaluate your options (e.g., "This is a name for a new pet food brand"), add it as question context. See When should I add context to my question?

FAQs

Can I mix text and images in the same poll?

Each option must be the same content type within a single question. If you need text alongside an image, use captions or embed the text directly in the image file.

Is there a character limit for text options?

Yes — each text option supports up to 5,000 characters. For most use cases (names, taglines, short descriptions), you'll be well within this limit.

Can I test private or password-protected URLs?

No. The page must be publicly accessible for respondents to view it. If you're testing a page that isn't live yet, take a screenshot and upload it as an image instead.

Can I test app store listings?

Yes. Paste the public App Store or Google Play URL so respondents can view the listing directly. Alternatively, take a screenshot and upload it as an image for a more controlled test where every respondent sees the same thing.
