Most PickFu polls complete within a few hours – many even finish in under an hour. Exact timing depends on three things: how long and complex your poll is, how many respondents you've requested, and how specific your audience targeting is. You'll start receiving responses within minutes of launching, and your results page updates in real time as they come in.
Heads up: If your poll hasn't filled within two weeks, we'll automatically end it and issue a prorated credit for any unfulfilled responses.
Typical completion times
Here's what most single-question polls look like on our U.S. panel at a standard sample size of 50 respondents. Note that this timing may vary widely depending on the specific traits you choose, and even on the time of day you launch your poll.
Targeting complexity | Typical completion time: 50 respondents in the United States |
No targeting (random audience) | 30 minutes or more |
1-2 common trait categories | 1 hour or more |
3-4 common trait categories | A few hours to a day |
Multiple niche trait categories | Several hours to 1+ days |
International panels are smaller than our U.S. panel, so polls targeting respondents outside the U.S. generally take longer – especially when combined with demographic targeting.
What affects how long your poll takes
Poll or survey length and complexity
Short polls complete faster than long ones. A single-question head-to-head takes less time per respondent than a multi-question survey with follow-up questions. If you're running a longer survey or adding follow-up questions, expect a slower turnaround than a comparable single-question poll.
Sample size
Larger samples take longer to finish. A 50-person random poll might complete in 15 minutes; a 500-person poll can take several hours or longer – especially with targeting layered on top. For most projects, 50–75 respondents is the sweet spot: enough data to act on, with a fast turnaround. You can always add more respondents later once your poll completes. Learn more about choosing the right sample size.
Audience targeting
Every targeting trait you add shrinks the pool of eligible respondents, which means longer completion times. Narrow targeting (three or more trait categories, international panels, or tight combinations like parents of toddlers in a specific income bracket) can extend your poll from hours to days — and in some cases, make it hard to fill at all.
Tip: Use the fewest traits that give you a relevant audience. For more on balancing targeting and speed, see how many targeting traits should I choose?
What happens if your poll can't fill in two weeks
If our systems can't find enough qualified respondents to finish your poll within two weeks, we'll automatically end it. When that happens:
You get a prorated credit for any unfulfilled responses
You can still review the responses you did collect
We'll email you a notification that the poll was stopped early
This usually happens when targeting is very narrow or when the combination of traits, country panel, and sample size doesn't match enough people. If you want to try again, you can duplicate the poll and relaunch with broader targeting or a smaller sample. For more detail, see why was my poll stopped early?
Tips to get results faster
Keep your poll focused. Fewer questions mean quicker fulfillment and often better-quality feedback.
Start with a smaller sample. 50 respondents is a great default. You can add more later if you want extra confidence in the results.
Limit targeting to one or two trait categories when possible. Each additional trait shrinks the available respondent pool.
Watch for the slower-than-usual warning during setup. If you see it, it's often worth simplifying before you launch.
FAQs
Can I check on my poll's progress?
Yes. Your results page updates in real time, so you can watch responses come in as they're completed. You can also leave the page and come back later — we'll email you when your poll is done.
Can I stop my poll early?
Yes. You can stop a running poll at any time from its results page. You'll get a prorated credit for any unfulfilled responses, and you can still review the responses you've already received.
Why is my poll taking longer than I expected?
The most common cause is tight audience targeting, especially combined with a larger sample size or an international panel. Try simplifying your targeting or lowering your sample size on your next poll.
Can I add more respondents once my poll completes?
Yes — within 120 days of completion. See how to add more respondents to your poll.
Do polls run faster on certain days or times?
Response times can vary slightly based on when you launch, but our panel is active 24/7 and most polls complete on the same timeline regardless of the day or hour. If speed matters, targeting and sample size have a much bigger effect than launch timing.
