How to screen your audience
Use audience targeting traits to screen respondents before they see your survey. Select from 120+ demographic, behavioral, and geographic traits (U.S. panel) in the audience targeting step of the survey builder to ensure only qualified respondents in your target audience participate. If you don’t see the trait you need, select Request a trait in the survey builder or submit the trait request form. You can also use demographic questions to collect additional data about respondents (such as their age or income range) to help you segment and analyze your insights based on specific audience traits. Can I ask screening questions in a survey?
Yes. You can include screening questions in a survey and use conditional branching to control which follow-up questions each respondent sees based on their earlier answers. Branching doesn’t remove respondents from a survey. Every respondent still completes the survey, but they only see the questions their answers unlock. Questions without a condition are shown to everyone. For example, you can ask “Have you ever purchased a wireless speaker?” as your first question, then set your follow-up questions to show only to respondents who answer “Yes.” Respondents who answer “No” skip those follow-up questions. If you need to exclude respondents entirely based on specific criteria, use audience targeting traits upfront instead of screening questions. How to add conditional branching to a survey
- In the survey builder, add the screening question you want to branch on, followed by the questions you want to show conditionally.
- On a follow-up question, select Show if: any answer in the question header.
- Select the earlier question whose answer should control this question.
- Select one or more answers. The question is shown to respondents who choose any of the selected answers.
Which questions can control branching?
You can branch on answers to these question types:- Single Select
- Multi Select
- Head-to-Head
- Ranked, based on the respondent’s first-ranked option
- Star Rating (for example, show a question only to respondents who gave 1 or 2 stars)
- Emoji Reaction (for example, show a question only to respondents who chose one of the two most negative emoji)
- Open-Ended
- Click Test
- Screen Recording
- 5-Second Test
- Likert Scale
- Van Westendorp Price Sensitivity Meter
Why can’t I use the branching control?
- It’s the first question. The branching control appears on the first question, but it’s disabled. There are no earlier questions to branch on, so the first question can’t have a condition. Hover over the control to see why.
- An answer option uses an unsupported media format. Some media formats in answer options don’t support branching yet, and the branching control is hidden for the whole survey while one is present. If you don’t see the control on any question after the first, try changing the media in your answer options.
What happens if I delete a question that other questions depend on?
PickFu warns you before deleting it. Questions that depended on the deleted question are shown to everyone until you update their conditions. You can also choose to remove those conditions when you delete the question.Frequently asked questions
