Imagine you are starting a new job. The company has a program that allows you the option to be matched with a "buddy." What should that person be?
Option A won this Ranked poll with a final tally of 26 votes after 2 rounds of votes counting.
In a Ranked poll, respondents rank every option in order of preference. For example, when you test 6 options, each respondent orders their choices from first to sixth place.
PickFu requires a majority to win a Ranked poll. A majority winner differs from a plurality winner. A majority winner earns over 50% of the votes, whereas a plurality winner earns the most votes, regardless of winning percentage.
If an option does not earn a majority of votes, PickFu eliminates the option with the lowest number of votes. The votes from the eliminated option are reassigned based on each respondent’s next choice. This process continues in rounds until a majority winner emerges.
Scores reflect the percentage of total votes an option receives during the vote counting and indicate the relative preference of the respondents. If there is no majority winner, look to the scores to see how the options fared relative to one another.
Option | Round 1 | Round 2 |
---|---|---|
A | 40% 20 votes | 52% 26 votes +6 |
C | 26% 13 votes | 26% 13 votes |
B | 18% 9 votes | 22% 11 votes +2 |
D | 16% 8 votes | Eliminated 8 votes reassigned |

i like most new hire, i want to think more
I would like someone that would be on same team as me or another new hire
i would want a buddy with some experience that could give me tips
a peer on your term would be the most useful so you can acclimate yourself to your work team
A - A peer on your team or a more senior member is better. They have a clue of what is going on and where to go for lunch, break and in general how things workB - someone with an understanding of the company makes senseD - i would rather have no buddy than someone else that is newC - this adds no value to me
Someone on my team would be the most helpful. I've only been paired with other new hires in the past, and it felt like that had no point.
I would like my buddy to be someone on my team (A) or someone on a similar level like (b) also a new hire could do like C but I prefer to have someone more experienced. I don't like option D because I would prefer a buddy instead of not having one.
I thought it might be best to have someone who can show you the ropes and mentor you. It would also be nice to have someone in the same position to relate to, but you wouldn't learn as much from them. It wouldn't be bad to meet someone from outside your small area in the company, but you would have even less to relate to with them, then, and it might not be very helpful or lasting as it would otherwise be. It would be best to have someone make you feel welcome and show you the ropes. You want to get up to speed so you can do as good a job as possible.
A Peer on my team is much appreciated.
Most likely I would want someone on my team that already knows stuff so I can get help easily as I learn my job.
I think that a peer on your team would be the most suitable to show you the ropes and help you get comfortable in your new role.
Someone on my team or same level another team can help me became adjusted and trained. I have onboarded alone many times with no problem. Teaming with another new hire is a waste of my time
I would like someone in my team as it would be easy to relate and bond with them since there is a relationship on ground already
I think if I had a "buddy" it would need to be someone with some experience that could help me.
A, having that peer and mentor could really make a difference in getting settled well within the company and new position.
A. Could be the start of a longer term collaboration.B. I could get the perspective of a different part of the organization. C. I think we would both be a bit clueless. D. No potential in this option.
Peer on your team makes it so if I have questions, they are easy and close by.
A buddy system is great but only if it is someone positive with experience at the job you are starting.
i ranked depending upon the description of the program
He should be with the quality to mingle easily on our team. He should have some creativeness. New buddy should be more active in work.

I like option B because you're getting someone one in a similar space, but you're not really competing with each other. Might be easier to share experiences.
Option B is more helpful so there is not any big difference and better relationship.
i'd want someone who has been there and is roughly in a similar spot as me so B and A are best. i wouldn't want a fellow newby cuz they don't know anything yet either
Equal level people can achieve more together.
i wouldn't want someone new because they don't know anything yet. i'd want someone who is in my role or on my team
Made my choices based on which buddy I would rather have. The buddy I would want is the one in B since it would be beneficial for us both and we are on a similar level.
A member of another team at a similar level as me is the option I prefer.
I would prefer the person should be as similar level as me because i truly believe company would benefit from this decision .It would help the company reaching its goals faster.
rather want someone i am familiar and have a relationship with to make things easier and go smooth

I think it's a good idea to have a buddy, but I think it makes the most sense to have one that's just starting out like you
I think it needs to tell you exactly what it is if you are going to want tj use the service
I like the idea of doing activities with a fellow new hire, because we are both in the same position of finding our place in the organization!
I would like to have someone new who is going through the same thing as me and have the ability to learn and grow together. I would like someone on my team who is a peer as well. I think a new hire gives us both the most motivation however.
We are both new. We are going through the same experience. They should be easy to relate to.
I think work-buddy may be most effective if it is a fellow new hire. This way you can learn and experience the ins and outs of the job together, and build a professional relationship with one another.
This way we both can learn and help each other more efficiently.
A fellow new hire would be best because you would both be motivated to help each other, and are going through similar things
C is the best to me because me and that person would be in the same boat. It would be nice to have someone who experiences the same things as me to stick with me
My first option would be a fellow new hire, because we could compare experiences to figure out how best to integrate into our new job. After that I would prefer to be partnered with someone on my team, as they'll be working more closely with me. Third I chose a member on another team at a similar level, as this would help to get a broader perspective of the entire company. Lastly I chose to not have a buddy, even though I think having a work partner would help speed up knowledge of the job, it also might be nice to be able to process everything by yourself.
I think there is value in knowing people outside my team and I would like a peer that I can talk honestly to or someone who can give me the low down on the place like option B. I don't want someone on my team because I will get to know them organically anyway.
Nice to have someone around to learn the ropes with.
A fellow new hire would be the best "buddy" due to our similar situation.

I wouldn’t really want one in the first place. I think it sounds a little strange. If I did have one I would want it to be a peer that has been there for a little that knows what they are doing
I don't like the "buddy" system in the corporate world as this is often a ploy by the employer to have problems solved through co-workers rather than the company itself
My preference would be D. If that is not feasible, I would go with A as I would want to be matched with a team member.
I wouldn't prefer a buddy, especially in a company that has competition for moving up in the ranks.
Ideas like this are usually HR nonsense and I wouldn't want to take part in it. I'm there to work.
D i would rather not be partnered up unless required, A would be my logical preference if i had to, C would be fine as well just so long as they knew what they are doing, B might be ok but it would depend on how these teams are setup
I really, really don't want a buddy at all but if I mist have one I would prefer a veteran peer. Another team same level might be okay but I really don't want a fellow new guy to be my buddy.
My choices D why because this topic interesting ..
