I am not dressing up for Halloween that I know of. If I do, I have a plain white mask...I wear that with a hoodie and all black. Or a transparent mask with the strange make-up. No character per se

I am dressing up as Peggy Schuyler from Hamilton (Broadway musical) - I always prefer classic characters, and do not usually like to follow the trend. Last year I was Pippi Longstocking and the year prior, I was Madeline. In my opinion, classic characters stand the test of time. I enjoy being something a bit obscure and off the beaten track.

Generally, I find classic characters have more longevity as Halloween costumes. This year I am dressing up as Jason Vorhees. My spin on it, which I have done before, is I am zombie Jason from the latter F13 movies (think Parts 6-8). This means a whole zombie makeup presentation (with prosthetics) under the hockey mask. It is like 2 costumes in one.
I will be dressing up as Nacho Libre from the movie Nacho Libre.
I will be dressing up as Morty from Rick and Morty.
I will be dressing up as a Jedi and its from Star Wars. I like classic characters
I always go with something simple for Halloween. I love the old classic monster movies from the 1950's and 1960's so I will be putting on an old lab coat and going as a mad scientist. It's an easy costume and it's fun. I always prefer classic characters.
I will be dressing up as an apple this year. My youngest is going as The Very Hungry Caterpillar. (A character from a classic Eric Carle book) She decided that she would like her father and I to dress up as foods that the caterpillar ate in the book. Usually, I prefer the more classic characters myself when dressing up for Halloween. My kids are more 50/50 on modern versus classic.
Freddy from Friday the 13th. Its classic, people know it and its available. Its easy and scary.
One of the characters from Disney's Descendants series. My daughters want to go as main characters, so we'll try and match a bit.

This holloween I will dress up as Jason from Halloween the movie. I have always been a fan of this movie and it is a hit at the parties because I have overalls from work I can wear for it.
Oh, I don't imagine that I'll be dressing up this year. If I were to do so, I would either go as June from Handmaid's Tale or Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. June is pretty appealing in light of our country's assault on healthcare lately. I would generally go with new characters since those would be more recognizable and I wouldn't want to explain my outfit over and over. Handmaid's Tale is pretty topical with the show being on Hulu currently and having recently released a new season.
Mr. Clean. He is a mascot for a cleaning company called "Mr. Clean". I prefer classic characters.

I'm not a big fan of dressing up so I have no clear preference for classic or new characters, but if I had to choose I would dress up as a classic character. I'm getting older and there is some nostalgia involved in dressing up as a classic character.
This Halloween I will be dressing up as Arthur Morgan. He is the main character from the 2018 videogame Red Dead Redemption II. I do not really have a preference between classic or new characters. It all just depends who I feel like dressing up as that year and what inspires me. Also, depends on if I am doing Halloween solo or dressing up to match with friends or a girlfriend.

I'm not dressing up as anything this Halloween, as I'm too old to trick or treat and I also am not going to a Halloween party. If I were, I probably would go as a plague doctor from the Black Plague era of Europe.
I would like the dress up as Shaggy from the animated series Scooby-Doo. I much prefer classic characters that are recognizable rather than new ones.

I would love to dress up as Rainbow Bright. She's so cute and reminds me of my childhood.
Minnie Mouse - especially after the stuff pulled by the Governor of Florida with Disney this past year. I always like classic characters since many people are not familiar with modern ones and might not understand the costume.

This Halloween I will be dressing up as one of my favorite characters from television. I will be dressing as Rick Sanchez from the animated adult cartoon Rick and Morty. I believe that classic characters are cool, but there’s just something about Rick that I love.
I am dressing up as a female Sith from Star Wars. There are not many well-known female Sith so it's more of me making a new character in the style of the ones that are out there. I am making this myself and piecing together the items to make this costume. I don't think I have a preference of classic or new. I prefer off the wall characters.
The character I'd like to dress up as would be Stanley Laurel, from Laurel and Hardy, though I fear that not many people would recognize who I was. For this reason, new characters are probably preferred, just because the fun of Halloween is in seeing kids smile, and unless they know the character, it's not so worthwhile.
I will be dressing up as a witch. It will be like a witch from the American horror story season Coven
I actually don't do Halloween, so I'm a little perturbed that your question assumes I do. Thus, I won't be dressing up..it should have been phrased as "IF you will be dressing up...." actually.
