What's the best title for a thrilling novel about a futuristic, all-female society struggling over the question of whether women should, or should not, bring men back to life -- a question ultimately determined by a young girl no one sees coming
Option B won this Ranked poll with a final tally of 34 votes after 2 rounds of votes counting.
In a Ranked poll, respondents rank every option in order of preference. For example, when you test 6 options, each respondent orders their choices from first to sixth place.
PickFu requires a majority to win a Ranked poll. A majority winner differs from a plurality winner. A majority winner earns over 50% of the votes, whereas a plurality winner earns the most votes, regardless of winning percentage.
If an option does not earn a majority of votes, PickFu eliminates the option with the lowest number of votes. The votes from the eliminated option are reassigned based on each respondent’s next choice. This process continues in rounds until a majority winner emerges.
Scores reflect the percentage of total votes an option receives during the vote counting and indicate the relative preference of the respondents. If there is no majority winner, look to the scores to see how the options fared relative to one another.
Option | Round 1 | Round 2 |
---|---|---|
B | 46% 23 votes | 68% 34 votes +11 |
C | 28% 14 votes | 32% 16 votes +2 |

I prefer a book title that has some intrigue whether real or imagined in the title.
I picked Option A because it was straightforward about what the book was about. I also like Athena, because I can imagine the heroine being a strong warrior. I dislike Girl Ex Machina because there are already several Deus Ex Machina brands.
Long descriptive titles, such as the one I chose are more and more popular. Giving an idea just from the title more of what it is about. The second choice is simple, the alternative to long, and to the point. The third choice is just no. It sound to much like the movie Ex Machina.
Honestly, I don't care for any of the titles. I chose option C last because the title doesn't make any sense to me based on the description. Athena's Choice sounds like a Hallmark movie, but still a decent title so that one came next. My top choice was Project Lazarus and the Girl in the World without Men because it was the most captivating title.
I didn't really like any of the choices.
This was the most original and descriptive.
This is more logical
This title fits the best with the given description and is most appealing.
I chose A first because the title is interesting and gets you to think philosophically. I chose B second as it is somewhat ambiguous and makes you wonder what Athena, a goddess, chose. I chose C last because it is a tired cliche of a title.
I like that A helps explain the book, Lazarus also gives hints about what the book is about. It's an intriguing title.
I like "Project Lazarus" because even though it's a longer title, it is a little more illustrative and gives a nice idea of what the book is about. "Girl Ex Machina" sounds a little corny, but it's an interesting play on words. I think "Athena's Choice" is a little too simplistic and vague.
The title gives you an idea of what the story is about.
i liked the word lazarus to be included in the title because of the quality of the metaphor. i do not know the athena's story but i think it is historical too. but i did not like girl ex machina, i wouldn't connect the plot with this name

I like the Athena's choice title, I feel it matches the description best and it is a short and simple title
I love this title super simple, C is ok and A is just to long
I really like the first choice. I do not like the project lazarus option.
I think B is the best title offered, though it isn't too memorable. I think that C is too similar to the film that came out a few years ago "Ex Machina" -- I don't think enough time has passed. A is much too wordy and definitely my least favorite. The plot of the book sounds interesting, but it doesn't need to be completely explained in the title.
Ideally I would choose option B because it gives off the impression of an intelligent read while staying true to the core of what is written. C and A are tied for me because I do not feel as though they fit the theme of the overall book.
Although I don't love any of the titles, I like Option B because it's clear that the book is about a female and a female with an important decision to make. I chose Option A because it's descriptive of the setting within the book (World without men.) I wonder about Project Lazarus. I wonder if people would understand to whom Lazarus refers. I chose Option C as my third choice because I'm fairly certain that most folks with not know what "ex machina" means.
Sounds the most inspiring with the greek goddess.
The first title is simple and sounds good. The last one is too long. the second choice I picked was just in between the two not too bad and not great.
I like choice B because it gives away little of the plot, I would have to read the dust jacket to find out what the book is about. Title C implies what the book is about, some might not take it the right way and not even bother looking at the book. Title A tells the whole plot line, it is supposed to be a title, not a summary.
Option A is way too wordy. Option C is egh and is trying too hard. I want to read Option B.
The way they sound the best
First title is a mystery. Second one is a good play on words. Third one says too much.
I didn't like how long the title was in Option A and Option B sounds more feminine.
Option B - Athena's choice, she was the Greek Goddess of wisdom, so her making the choice makes a lot of sense!Option C - I didn't like the last one, but a girl that used to be a machine making the choice makes it a logical choice, not an emotional oneOption A - I don't like biblical references - so I wouldn't have selected this one.
No one knows Latin, Project Lazarus... is way too long. Athena's Choice is short and sweet.
I like the name Athena's Choice because it sounds a little mysterious and exciting. What will she decide?
I like B because it makes me think of the Greek Goddess Athena. A I put next because the title interests me enough I would read the back cover. C doesn't grab my attention
I chose B, "Athena's Choice" as the best title. It is short and doesn't give much of anything away about the storyline. It makes the reader ask themselves, "what choice?" Option C was my second choice because it is also a short title but I don't really understand what it means. Option A is my last choice. It is just too long for a title and gives too much of the storyline away. If the title were shorter (5-6 word max) it would have been choice number two instead of three.
I don't like any of the titles, honestly. A was more descriptive, but entirely too long for a book title. I chose B because it was simple and to the point
Personally, I would just call it, "Project Lazarus" but I do like the Athena-mythology references. I chose B because it was the most clear and concise.
Athena's Choice and Girl Ex Machina sound interesting. Project Lazarus and the Girl in the World Without Men is super long and boring. It also makes the book sound more simplistic.
Stupid premise but seems logical that the name of goddess should be in the title.
without knowing more information, such as the character's name, I like the simplicity of "athena's choice." I do not care for the "ex machina" so I put it last. I'd need more information to accurately assess the title, but in general I like the feeling of athena's choice and think it has potiential.

I love the title of C. I hate the title of A so that put B in the middle.
I like ex machina.
i went with the names that sounded the most intriguing. they also had words that are memorable.
Chosen from best sounding t oleast
It makes sense to have the word Girl in the title. The second one is short as well but the third is too long.
I really like the sound of the first choice. I think the last choice is too typical.
The last choice was super obvious but the first two leaves a feeling of suspense.
It sounds more interesting in that order
It sounds the best and makes the most sense
C is a clever ploy on Deus Ex Machina, implying Girl and God are equal. I like it the best by far.
I don't think any of the titles really tell about the subject matter. But I put in order of which were most appealing.
That is the coolest title
anything having to do with an ex could be very interesting! also the shorter the title the better. i think. straight to the point!
Girl Ex Machina is short and easy to remember while intriguing. Athena's choice sounds too broad and more like a cheesy romance novel. Project Lazarus is a way too long title and is a lot to process
