Which title for a book aimed at 8 to 12 year olds would you choose and why?
There was no majority winner of this Ranked poll after 3 rounds of vote counting. However, Option A and Option D had the most votes (25).
In a Ranked poll, respondents rank every option in order of preference. For example, when you test 6 options, each respondent orders their choices from first to sixth place.
PickFu requires a majority to win a Ranked poll. A majority winner differs from a plurality winner. A majority winner earns over 50% of the votes, whereas a plurality winner earns the most votes, regardless of winning percentage.
If an option does not earn a majority of votes, PickFu eliminates the option with the lowest number of votes. The votes from the eliminated option are reassigned based on each respondent’s next choice. This process continues in rounds until a majority winner emerges.
Scores reflect the percentage of total votes an option receives during the vote counting and indicate the relative preference of the respondents. If there is no majority winner, look to the scores to see how the options fared relative to one another.
Option | Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 |
---|---|---|---|
A | 38% 19 votes | 44% 22 votes +3 | 50% 25 votes +3 |
D | 38% 19 votes | 42% 21 votes +2 | 50% 25 votes +4 |
B | 12% 6 votes | 14% 7 votes +1 | Eliminated 7 votes reassigned |

I like the word wild in the title as I think it would be appealing to the age range specified. Almost Animal is the weakest because it gives me no insight about the book at all.
Wild Bond is descriptive enough where I know it will be about a boy and animal, but also poetic enough that it would spark a child’s imagination. I chose Kin second because it’s good to get kids learning that word. Almost Animal is a bit too silly and does not sound like a published book title.
I like the word Wild being in the title. If I was an 8 to 12 year, that would intrigue me and create interest in the book. I wouldn't know what to expect aside from a creative read.
I chose by which name I think would most appeal to this age range.
I like A because it sounds the most interesting and I think an 8 to 12 year old would think so too. D is also interesting but the last 2 don't really sound like something someone in that age range would like.
Wild Bond has an interesting sound to it, and could be very interesting.
I would think book would be about bonding with nature are safe titles--I would think about family are safe titles--Don't care for last two
More common, uncomplicated words with no ambivalent meanings would do better with children of that age, especially the younger range.
A combines the desire for individuality, and need for belongingness, that I think define early adolescence. B gets the belongingness, but not the individuality. C hints at the individuality, but doesn't address belongingness. D doesn't really have either.
I though (A) 'Wild Bond' sounded the most interesting as the title of a book. It sounds like an adventure with an animal, possibly a wild animal that was tamed by the protagonist. Next I would pick (B) 'Kin' as it seems like an interesting title that could really be about anything. The first thing that came to my mind was a mysterious creature as the antagonist. Choice (C) would be my third choice. It seems like a vampire book or some other fantasy setting. A chosen one hero story seems likely. Option (D) is my lowest ranked choice because I believe it is a weak title for a book. It doesn't sound grammatically correct. I imagined some sort of Chimera type creature, but there has to be a better title for that idea. Hope this helps!
A is the most interesting. C might make me want to take another look, but it is kind of generalized, it could be referring to many different things. B is the third best. It's too short and needs to be more descriptive. D is the worst, just sounds weird.
My first choices were ones I thought were the most mysterious and ambiguous - more likely to draw people in.
Most of these are fine except the blood one, it seems a bit off for a children's book name
Wild bond is a good name and I think the first two are appropriate names
Kin is to niche of a word, and i feel like not many kids would know what it is. wild bond just sounds like good teen book.
My choice of option "A" sounds the best title for a book for 8-12 year olds compared to the other choices I've been given. Other names such as Almost Animal, Rare Blood and Kin are confusing and ambiguous and definitely something that a 8-10 year old would not be in a position to grasp.
Wild Bond is both unique and easy to understand. I think Kin is the most difficult to understand and didn’t tell us much about what kind of story it is.
I dont feel any of the titles are appropriate for the age range of 8-12 year olds. I feel these titles are way to mature and we need a more kid friend title.
I think Wild bond sounds the most interesting out of the 4 options. I do not think rare blood sounds like a book that 8 to 12 year olds should read and the other options are kind of boring to me.

"Kin" is my favorite, and I feel like this could be a very catchy title for the first book in a series.
I like the most because the title "Kin" sounds the most interactive, engaging, and meaningful. Option D and A also sound pretty interesting overall. Option C sounds too inappropriate for 8-12 year olds.
Kin is good because its ambiguous and concise. Wild Bond is okay. I don't like blood in the title of something for kids.
I'm thinking in terms of a mix of evocation and potential. For a young adult novel, "Kin" feels weirdly poignant and can refer to any number of themes at the same time. "Rare Blood" raises interesting questions. "Wild Bond" is a bit more generic and limited in what it can actually refer to, but at least it flows better than "Almost Animal."
All of them sound pretty neat, I'd have to know more about the content of the books.
The reason is because I think that they found the best in that order compared to any other order I could have put them in

Rare blood seems like it would be popular for that age group because the word blood at that age is intriguing and somewhat risque. Next, almost animal seems like a good choice because it implies some sort of super natural being like a warewolf or something. Next I believe wild bond would be next but it seems a bit old school because it seems it could be just a book about a dog and a boy. Lastly Kin, not sure what that means other than maybe cousins or some other type of kinfolk, in my opinion that's not very intriguing for that age group.
Kin is really boring. Wild Bond makes me think it is an exciting book. Almost Animal would make me wonder what it is about. I think it would be exciting.
I like Choice C "Rare Blood" best because it invokes a feeling of mystique and it sounds very cool, I think that title would be very attractive to children between the age of 8 to 12 because it is easy to understand and sounds very mysterious. Choice A comes in second in that it is very easy to read while still instilling enough interest in children of that age to read the book. Choice D sounds rather odd because Almost Animal sounds grammatically odd. Option B I feel that not many children understand what the word means and therefore would be turned off in exploring the book any further.
Kids that age, especially boys, love things with blood. Almost animal seems like fantasy genre, a lot of kids enjoy reading that. Wild Bond seems like some type of adventure or action book. Kin is vague, something about family, but doesn't reveal much of what the story line might be.
Options C,B and A all sound exciting when you read them out loud. These titles have adventure type sound to them, the titles have a mystery yet fun vibe to them. Option D doesn't sound that exciting to me.
Rare Blood sounds the coolest for a kid. It sounds pretty rad.

i think an 8-12 year old would be more curious about animals and bonds
D and C is interesting and they catch your attention right away. I think D is a bit more exciting but, C is a good second. A is a bit confusing but it’s much better the B. B sounds boring and simple.
I can sort of put myself in the shoes of kids and if I was 8-12 years old the title "almost animal" would draw me in most it's whimsical and fun, so is "wild bond" to a lesser degree, "rare blood" might still draw me in it sounds mysterious, Kin is last it sounds more like something for adults
I chose Option D first because I think it is, comparatively, the most age-appropriate. Without knowing more, Rare Blood and Wild Bond both sound like they could be erotic novels, and "Kin" doesn't make sense without any context.
I picked the titles that seemed more childlike.
Almost animal sounds intriguing but still safe for kids.
I would choose A because the message is intriguing.
Every kid loves animals so almost animal would intrigue this age group the most
Option D's "Almost Animal" is the most intriguing title, in my opinion. It makes you really wonder what the story would be about - more so than the other proposed titles.
I ranked them by titles that is suitable for children to read at that age and what they are able to understand. The only one that does that is D. The rest falls because they do not do so.
I believe that this age group is still innocent but curious so I would go with names that are not overly offensive and violent but those that make them interested and curious.
Thinking about this particular group, I believe they would like animals. Therefore, this is why I picked (D). The other titles were not appealing to me and I am sure that would be true of 80 to 12 year old's. "Wild Bond", "Kin" and "Rare Blood" are questionable titles for this group with the exception of perhaps "Kin".
I like choice D for a title for kids because choice D is a nice and friendly title than the other options.
THE WORDING IS MORE AGE APPROPRIATE IN RANK OF ORDER I SELECTED
It needs to be a title they’ll understand and be drawn to. Almost animal is interesting and rare blood will catch the boys attention. Girls too maybe. Wild bond and kin not so much. Those don’t catch my attention either and I have a greater concept of their meaning than an 8 year old does
Almost Animal sounds like a good book title for a child in that age group.
It's hard to tell without knowing what the book is about. "Kin" is right out because I think a lot of kids don't know what that means and with no other surrounding words, it is very unclear and not at all memorable. "Rare Blood" is next to last because I have a nephew around that age who freaks out when you even say the world blood. Options D and A are the top, but "Almost Animal" wins for me because it is easy to understand the concept and is also intriguing.
I like Almost Animal because a lot of kids like to pretend to be animals. I like Wild Bond because it is similar to Call of the Wild, indicating there is a bond among wild animals. I like Kin third because "kin" is an uncommon word meaning family. I would choose Rare Blood last because it sounds violent and graphic.
I prefer books that will introduce kids to more vocabulary and will be richer stories. I chose the titles based on how I felt the writing would be.
