Which book title, and subtitle would you rather read and why?
Option A won this Ranked poll with a final tally of 32 votes after 1 round of vote counting.
In a Ranked poll, respondents rank every option in order of preference. For example, when you test 6 options, each respondent orders their choices from first to sixth place.
PickFu requires a majority to win a Ranked poll. A majority winner differs from a plurality winner. A majority winner earns over 50% of the votes, whereas a plurality winner earns the most votes, regardless of winning percentage.
If an option does not earn a majority of votes, PickFu eliminates the option with the lowest number of votes. The votes from the eliminated option are reassigned based on each respondent’s next choice. This process continues in rounds until a majority winner emerges.
Scores reflect the percentage of total votes an option receives during the vote counting and indicate the relative preference of the respondents. If there is no majority winner, look to the scores to see how the options fared relative to one another.
Option | Round 1 |
---|---|
A | 64% 32 votes |
C | 26% 13 votes |
B | 10% 5 votes |

I personally struggle with depression, but I can't see how metaphors are particularly beneficial, so I would be most drawn to the subtitle that doesn't mention them.
A is simple and to the point, which is the point. The other two aren't bad but not really needed.
I liked A best because it felt the most punchy and didn't have a lot of verbal clutter as B and C both did. B and C both lost me with their metaphor language....
A is right to the point. "How to be up when things are down". Good and simplistic, just the way that I like it. Any further details can be elaborated on by me reading the book.
I prefer this one. It is short and sweet and to the point. The other ones are way too wordy and long.
I like the simple A, it's short and more relatable. Making metaphors work seems too "happy", it's not like you can read something and it will instantly make you always be positive.
Keep the subtitle short.
A is concise, direct and powerful. The extra text in B and C waters down the strong message.
I like how A remains a bit ambiguous. I think that leads to some appeal. I would go with A
I like the simple message of being up when others are down and looking at the situation
A is the shortest and easiest to understand. C is the second easiest to understand. B is a close third to C.
I think a simpler tag line is more likely to be read and pique my interest.
Puts the focus on circumstance best in this order.
The briefest and simplest subtitle is preferred. People don't want to read a lengthy sentence that feels like a paragraph in order to find out what they will read about
I liked the brevity and simplicity of Option A. Frankly, the idea of making metaphors work in such a regard doesn't make sense to me. I don't understand it so the idea is off-putting. I think different wording needs to be used. I like how my imagination can be let loose with the shorter title of Option A. Option B was second because "up when things are down" has a nicer ring than "how to be up when feeling down".
I think A is short and sweet and to the point. When I read about "metaphors" working for me I feel like it's uninteresting. With A I'd actually probably read it or be interested.
I like the openness of this subtitle. It makes you really think about what you are about to read.
A) I would choose A first because it gets right to the point and it makes sense without all the extra fluff. C) C is next because it talks about when YOU'RE feeling down and makes it personal. B) B is last because it always draws it out and makes it too much.
I prefer the shorter, more to-the-point subtitle. It explains the book in less words.
I chose by which would most get my attention.
A because of limited text, easy to read, simple and to the point. C because feeling down were good words to use in it.B liked least of the three text wise, the emotion in C was better.
I chose A first because these book titles are clear, simple and to the point.
I chose based on simplicity which to me always catches my attention.
I prefer this one because it is quick and to the point and makes me wonder how I can make it better.
Option A is the most catchy, and it gets the same point across as the other two options.
I like the more simple subtitle, without the emphasis that it's about metaphors. After that, I like the specification that it's when you're 'feeling' down rather than things actually being bad.
I chose A because it is quick and memorable. I don't like C or B at all. C sounded a bit better than B.
Option A is more direct and more general in nature. Regardless of what the "things" are, it draws you in and not just based on how I am "feeling". I'm always interested in learning more about how to be more upbeat, more positive, etc.
I chose my first choice because it didn't mention metaphors. I wouldn't like reading metaphors to cheer me up because I think that's too much of a gimmick and not addressing the underlying causes of what's making a person feel down. I chose my second choice because even though it mentioned metaphors, it was more personalized because it said how to be up when you're feeling down. It was about you and when you're feeling down as opposed to the last choice which was impersonal by using the word things - when things are down.
I chose based on which one was more concise
I really like A because its short and to the point. Easy to read and understand.
I like the simplicity of Option A, and it makes me curious to know more. For me, when "things" are down, I am also "feeling" down, so the subtitle on Option C is too obvious. I also like the additional information in the other options about metaphors; however, I don't think it is necessary to get the potential reader's attention.

it's important to include the part about metaphors - and removing 'feeling down' feels more appropriate.
B is a more interesting title to me, I would rather read about being up when things are down using metaphors, that seems like a curious idea I would want to learn more about.
Option b sound more intriguing and interesting in my opinion
Option A isn't descriptive enough. Option C is too wordy. Option B is best.
I like B best because it describes more about what the point of the book is. I don't A, the title is too negative. I read it and didn't feel good about it. I don't think I would pick that book up to read it.

Option C's is more descriptive about the book's topic compared to B and A. And option B is more descriptive compared to A.
I like the sub text in C best. The word feeling is key here and paves the way for the reader.
Option C is most appealing to me because it speaks directly to me about how to feel better when I'm depressed by using the power of metaphors.
I like option C because it has alittle more writing and sounds very encouraging to me.
Recently, it's me who is feeling down as I lost my mother during the pandemic, so a book title targeted to me feeling down is more suitable than a book that focuses on when things are down.
I think option C is the easiest to understand and makes me curious to want to read more
Honestly, only option C makes sense. The wording "when you're feeling down" is relate as everyone feels it at one time or another. It is something we all can relate to.
Cute book title; I would read the dust jacket and peek inside.
Just trying to speak them out loud I base on what sounds more like proper English
I prefer option C out of these 3 options because the subtitle is a bit longer and more detailed which tells me more about what the book itself will be about and more concise about it as well.
I like choice C because it brings in a personal aspect that makes me feel like the book is focused on me. Option B comes in second because it is more general and it makes me feel like it can apply to anyone. Choice A is last because it is too ambiguous.
The book subtitle I would prefer to read first is option C because it designate feeling which is to the point of the subject.Second choice is option B because things can be many things but option C made a clear point of indicating feelings.Third choice is A because many things can be up and down nothing specific.
Option C is more personal followed by B and lastly A is just a droll
